Exhibitions / Humanitarian Support

We present a parallel program with two exhibitions: the first is an international exhibition, which not only relates to the theme of the 8ET, but also possesses an humanitarian purpose; the second offers a selection of works made by students of the first year of the Typography course in BA Communication Design at the University of Algarve.

"Across Borders: Design without borders"

Studio Mayúscula (ES) Project

Poster Exhibition - 2nd edition / PT edition

The 8ET contributes to the humanitarian aid to displaced refugee children, through the international project "Across Borders: Design without borders" of Studio Mayúscula (ES), by inviting them to create a 2nd Edition of the "Across Borders" Exhibition at 8ET, the Portuguese edition and promote the project. This edition was possible thanks to the exclusive funding by Glyphs.

The exhibition presents a set of Posters by international design studios and graphic artists. The sales revenue of the Posters reverts to the "Save the Children" fund, a humanitarian project whose origin dates back to 1919.

Venue: Teatro Lethes space, 3 and 4 November, 9:00-18:00

"Letters are things, not Pictures of things"

Exhibition of students work

class of Typography

1st grade, BA Communication Design, UAlg

We present a selection of students’ work of the first year BA class of Typography, which result of an initial exercise that provides a first contact with the design of letters through an experimental, hands-on approach.

The written content that is repeated is chosen by the student and serves as a mere pretext. The real purpose is to build letterings exploring conceptual and formal dimensions, from the expressive potential of the materials also chosen by the students. They were given a list of words as a starting point (students would add others), to be communicated in the design / construction of the letterings.
